I have been obsessing over what to get Kya for her second birthday. I know... I know.. silly. Not for me.
I have been eyeing wooden dollhouses at a toy store in Lawrence the WHOLE SUMMER!!! They are pricey so I never could make up my mind from the three styles they had to choose from. Mainly because you buy the house but then much like a real house you have to PAY to furnish the damn thing! What good is a nice three story wooden house if all you have to play with is the kitchen furniture.
The houses were around 140.00, then there was the additional 3rd floor you could buy for another 50 bucks. Each room set cost 19.99. So If I was going to buy all the regular rooms.. you know... like.. living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and buy people to play with, your looking at another 100.00 easy! YOu see why I was soooo indecisive! This is a lot of cash to plunk down on a toy she might not even really like.
So two weeks ago while at a playdate I saw a Fisher price doll house for 2 yr olds. It was about 40 bucks. I went out to look at it and you still had to furnish the house, but the rooms were a more reasonable 11.00 a piece. I filled my online cart with everything and the total came to 93.00 all together. Done deal right?
For some reason I still couldn't commit. I think I had my heart set on a wooden doll house she could use forever. Not a plastic fisher price one. SO I left the cart and kept pondering.
Last week while in our old home town we made a trip to Target, which is right next door to a Children's Orchard. (one of those second hand stores) I asked hubby to pull in because I am still on the lookout for a second hand side by side double stroller.
As I walk in the door I spot a full set fisher price doll house for 23.00! I zero in on it and pick it up. SCORE! I think. Now if she doesn't like it I can buy the wooden one some other time. As I load it onto the table the sales woman says.... "NO! You have to look at the one we just got it!"
I turn slowly to where she is pointing up high on a shelf. OHHHHH MYYYYY GODDDDDDD!!!! It is amazing. It is a full... FULL... FULLL!!!!!!!! Wooden Dollhouse. COMPLETE with EVERYTHING! for .... get this.... 65 DOLLARS!!!!
Ok you think I am overly excited.. granted I probably am.. but dude! When you have been staring at dollhouses for 3 months, calculating, adding, subtracting, processing every room and what you want! Then you walk into a second hand store 2 hours away from your house ON A WHIM! AND WHAM!!!!!!!!!! The dollhouse of my dreams..... uhhhh ... I mean Kya's dreams...... is staring you in the face and your eyes are glazing over as you look at every room in the house fully furnished for only 65 dollars. I almost CRIED!
It really is a thing of beauty.
I mean hello it even has a little vacuum cleaner. As soon as Kya went to bed I set up all the little rooms to take pictures. I think I may have as much fun with this as Kya will! Do you not just love the little rugs!
I priced it all out and it would of cost me 350.00 retail easily!

Awesome!
Nora has a little plastic FP one we got as a hand-me-down and I still have my old wooden one but I need to fix it up for her. I think for her 2nd birthday we're getting her a kitchen playset.
Hell, yeah, you're excited! That's a freaking AMAZING deal on something you've wanted to get Kya for a really long time.
The shopping gods were with you...;)
Oh, and: FREAKING SWEET on the placenta situation! :D I'm really happy and excited for you! I think sometimes that docs get a sick kick out of freaking pregnant women out. It takes so little, really, to make us do it.
I feel you on the big sister/little sister shirts. I still get teary eyed when I see the pics of Nea meeting Sarah for the first time. The look on her face is one of such wonder and gentleness and love. Crap. Now I'm crying just remembering it.
You're in for some amazing times, girl! :D
That dollhouse is adorable - and what a steal!!! She is going to be sooo excited - I can't wait to see her face when you give it to her. We miss you this week - A. and I will be so glad to see you guys next week!
Great post - I love the doll house.

that is awesome! i never had a doll house when i was a girl, so i think i missed out on something! i can't decide between a kitchen or a doll house for sasha's second b-day. either one would be shared with hiro, and he loves the kitchen at the city play group!
did Kya love it?? I bet she did!!! You can admit it, you did cry when you saw it...it's ok, I would have too :)
