You guys aren't famous celebrities getting paid to host or BE SEEN at an award show. You guys aren't even blip's on the screen of the Internet in this great big world. The shit you got... was a bunch of leftovers they had, and marketing said... "Hey yeah why don't you go to that blogher thing those people keep HOUNDING us to sponsor and throw some free
Last time I checked SWAG involved a huge basket being personally delivered to you buy a guy wearing a head set attached to some sponsor with A LOT OF MONEY! Someone who also was soooo impressed by you they wouldn't shove you into a small room with a bunch of needy, grabby woman all looking at the same little bag with a sippy cup inside drooling over it.
SWAG involves Manolo Blahnik , Mania Perfume by Giorgio Armani, and some new Apple IV iphone you haven't even seen advertised yet. Along with an hour long massage by the HOT guy in the corner. Or a tent you are given an assistant to personally escort you through before the big event. SWAG involves being PAID and BRIBED to be at an event.. You my friend....PAID to go there.
That shit you got....that ain't SWAG.... that is called FREEBIES! SO stuff that free pen in your junk drawer and get over it.
** noted to add**
Over the last couple of years I have thought as soon as my kids are done nursing and I am no longer pregnant I would love to go to blogher... However after every Blogher event there is such a negative vibe. People always saying ohhh but other than THAT it was great. Seems to me it is just going to get worse... so until it does get professional and less high school reunion esk', count me out. I would rather spend my money on a real vacation.

Man I want some SWAG!! or Freebies either one :P
You crack me up - and you already know how much I hate Crocs, so I agree that Crocs are, indeed, not swag. LOL
However, have you not read my posts? Mine were about the conference itself and what it was really about. And about the Mamapop party, which did not have swag. About why the conference is inspiring. About how not everyone who attended was a greedy whore. 5% bad behaviour is negating 95% success, which is sad. So very sad.
Also, some of the swag was actually quite valuable - at the Social Luxe party, it included a Flip camera for attendees and well over $4000 including several cameras for speakers (I heard this straight from the mouth of Isabel Kallman of Alphamom, who was in shock at the value of her bag.) At the Nintendo party attendees received a Nintendo DS. Most of the folks talking about pens and Crocs are very tongue in cheek about the whole thing driving home a point about the greed.
Also, there are two different ways to distribute swag to celebrities - one at events where yes, bags are given directly to the celebrity. There are also swag suites for the celebrities - hotel suites that are open for celebrities to come in a cruise, to pick out what they want. There are tons and tons of stories about celebrities behaving badly and greedily trying to get swag. It is not just the common folk.
I respect your opinion. I truly do. And good for you for writing it so publicly.
However, It's unfortunate that you'd generalize and deprive yourself of losing out on what could be an incredible experience simply based on a few negative blog entries you read.
Blogher is what you make of it. I came home with one bag of "swag" and it's currently sitting in the corner of my bedroom because I could care less what's in it. That's not why I went.
I'm sorry you've gone ahead and lumped me into a "high-school reunion" group of people simply because I went to an event to meet some people that have always been accepting of me and have given me a huge sense of community and love. People I call my friends.
Pocklock- I also enjoyed your comment :) i never said you were anything... i said it was high school esq' and if you rem last year everyone was pissed about parties and gossip.. this year it free stuff... if you don't think that sounds childish we will agree to disagree... it is nice you went to an event to meet some people that have always been accepting of you and have given you a huge sense of community and love, people you now call my friends. I also find this to be true.

Ahhh....
I love you more today than yesterday!
{because I just read this post today!}
I'm officially never going to BlogHer without you. You'll keep my a$$ in check, in a timely manner, no doubt. You know---so I don't get caught up in the non-SWAG swag.
